Opening this restaurant has meant a lot to Vineet. Besides going back home with his cuisine, it has also meant returning to the same grounds where he felt his creativity curbed, discontented enough to leave the country in order to practice and resolve his ethos and cuisine abroad. Ziya signifies the ‘ return of the Prodigal son’. That son is chef Vineet Bhatia, who has returned to the hotel 25 years after training at the Oberoi Centre for Learning and Development.

Opened in April 2010, seventeen months after terrorists defaced The Oberoi, Ziya is set in plush gold and black surroundings overlooking the Marine Drive and Mumbai city’s skyline.
